Customizing the Editor

Breveto's editor is fully customizable, so you can tailor your writing environment to fit your workflow. To access the editor settings, open Breveto and choose "Breveto > Settings" from the menu, or use the shortcut ,.

Editor Settings

  • Formatting Menu Position (Mac only) — Choose where the formatting menu appears: Inline or Bottom.
    If shown inline, the menu will appear on top of your selection, or when pressing the shortcut K. If shown at the bottom, the menu will always be visible at the bottom of the screen.
  • Restore Editor Scroll Position — Choose where to restore the editor scroll position when opening a document: At last position, At page top, or At page bottom.
  • Scroll Beyond Last Line — Enable or disable scrolling beyond the last line of the document.
  • Scroll Jump Speed — Change the speed at which the editor scrolls when jumping to headings or search results: Smooth or Instant.
  • Completed Todo Appearance — Change how completed todos appear: Strikethrough or Faded.

Typography

  • Font — Change the font family of the text editor. You can choose any installed font on your computer, or use the Default system font.
  • Font Size — Change the size of the editor font. You can also change the font size while editing a file by using the shortcut + or -.
  • Line Height — Adjust the line height of the editor for better readability.
  • Paragraph Spacing — Control the spacing between paragraphs in the editor.
  • Editor Width — Change the maximum width of the editor to match your preferred reading width.
  • Reset — Reset all typography settings to their default values.

Text Cursor

(Mac only). You can change the look and behavior of the text cursor (also called the caret).

  • Style — Choose between Round (default) or Thin cursor style.
  • Cursor Animation — Change how the cursor animates: Smooth, Blink, Expand, or Static.
  • Cursor Movement — Choose whether the cursor moves smoothly or instantly when placed.

Code Blocks

  • Tab Size — Change the size of tabs within code blocks. Options range from 2 to 8 spaces.
  • Wrap Code Lines — Enable or disable line wrapping within code blocks. When disabled, long lines will scroll horizontally instead.
